ABOUT SDA

Transforming Challenges into Opportunities

Specialised Disability Housing (SDA) is residential accommodation designed for individuals with extreme functional impairments or high support needs, funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to improve care and support delivery. Eligible participants, making up 3.8% of NDIS users, have the autonomy to choose their accommodation and care providers.

The SDA framework aims to increase the availability of specialised housing, promoting independence, social inclusion, and overall well-being for Australians living with significant disabilities.

Due to the lack of appropriate housing, many participants are currently housed in hospitals or aged care facilities. SDA provides Government a net-positive alternative investment, reducing associated costs by up to 600% and reducing reliance on disability supports under the NDIS.
